My Experience Interviewing With SIE Shenzhen:
I applied to a few job postings on Teach Away and DaveESLCafe. The next day, I received several emails from schools and agents.
One that mainly got my attention was Annie from Gold Star Teachers; she is very responsive and supportive. She asked me to email a copy of my passport, which I was a little reluctant to do but ended up sending to her. Additionally, she asked me to send her:
- Passport photo page
- Degree
- My Skype I.D. or WeChat
- Confirm my Current location ( City and Country)
After receiving my documents and confirming my preferred cities in China to teach English, she lined up three job interviews for me.
Annie sent me three job descriptions, along with the company/school information. Three days later, I received an email from the SIE Shenzhen HR manager to set up an interview.
In the next section, I will explore a few resources to help you succeed during your interview.

A few days after my interview, Jenny, the HR manager from SIE Shenzhen, sent me a contract to review and sign. And then, she sent an invitation letter to authenticate my criminal record at the Chinese Visa Center in Toronto.
After over two years working with SIE Shenzhen, my journey has been incredibly positive. And also, the process has been transparent for me.
My primary contact with SIE Shenzhen has been very responsive and supportive. I remember sending her a message on Saturday around 5:00 pm Eastern time ( 5:00 am China time); I was pleasantly surprised that she replied within 5 minutes.
When choosing a school to work for in China, look for someone who communicates well with you, responds promptly, and cares about your well-being.
Once you are in China, this school will be your primary support; if you choose a school that does not respond to your messages, questions, and WeChat texts, what would you do in case of emergencies?
